TU Delft Science Centre Building Developments

TU Delft Science Centre is situated in building 26 at the heart of TU Delft’s campus. This building will soon be renovated as part of the TU Delft Science Centre Building Plan, which focuses on creating a dynamic, inspiring centre in which science, technology and society go hand in hand. The renovation project has been split into several phases.

Herinrichting duurzame entreeha l

The entrance hall of TU Delft Science centre is currently being remodelled. As an important part of the building – the place where visitors get their first impressions of the science centre – the hall will be home to a large interactive artwork that doubles as a research object: ‘Is it alive’. Developed by Philip Beesley in collaboration with TU Delft, the artwork will be given a prime spot in the centre of the entrance hall. It is a living object, to which visitors can contribute to during a trip to the Science Centre.

A reception area with various presentations will also be created. The ground floor will reopen in the first quarter of 2025 as the Engineering Atelier, a sustainable environment where visitors can learn and develop with science and technology.

Sustainable and circular campus

Reused and sustainable materials will be used in the renovation and all parts are designed with disassembly in mind to allow for circular use. This will contribute tow achieving TU Delft’s sustainability goal: a carbon-neutral, circular, and climate-adaptive campus by 2030.

Basement renovation

The basement of the TU Delft Science Centre will be renovated in Q1 2025. Various labs will be created in a third part of the basement: a Microelectronics Lab for the manufacture and testing of micro-electronics, an XR-Gamelab for creating digital assets, a Robotics Lab that combines the worlds of software and hardware, and a Light Lab that revolves around perception and the senses. With these new labs, visitors will have even more opportunities to explore the world of science and technology. The basement will also host the Science Experience, a unique interactive museum experience.
