Conservation building 22

Building 22 houses a number of departments of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the QuTech institute and several internal and external tenants. To ensure optimal facilitation of education and research, major maintenance is being carried out. From autumn 2019 until 2022, various parts of the building are being replaced or renovated. Apart from a number of technical components, such as the building management system and the renewal of cabling, the building’s sustainability will also be improved. In total, more than 50 measures will be implemented. All work is aimed at maintaining the building until the future new building for Physics is completed.

Coordination with users

All user groups were involved in the preparations. For example, in mapping critical processes and devising precautionary measures and logistical solutions to minimise inconvenience during the work. Wherever possible, work is combined. This building houses several labs. Gases, cooling water and electrical power, among other things, are essential to the business processes. For the teaching rooms as well, the work should preferably not interfere with education activities. Campus and Real Estate will remain in contact with the users and constantly makes agreements with the contractor about working hours and methods in order to minimize nuisance as much as possible.

Planning

  • Q4 2019: replacement of building management system
  • Q1 2020: refurbishment E-wing
  • 2020-2022: all remaining maintenance
