Area vision Campus Midden
Area vision for Campus Midden
Campus Midden is the area between Rotterdamseweg, Kruithuisweg, Schoemakerstraat and Christiaan Huygensweg/Jaffalaan. A spatial vision has been drawn up for this area, indicating how the area can develop in the future. The vision is based on three main pillars.
- Green supports as the main spatial structure of the campus
Mekelpark and the surrounding areas are important open spaces that form the basis of Campus Midden. The green areas define the boundaries of six building blocks or clusters, each with its own character. The city and TU Delft meet along the edges of these green areas. This is where TU Delft can present itself to the city, and the green urban structures run through the campus, making them part of daily life in Delft. - Building blocks and urban orientation
The exteriors of the building blocks connecting to the green zones have a more formal and monumental look with many ‘front doors’. The buildings form a clear and continuous line along the road, delimiting the green area. There is space for a more relaxed atmosphere within these boundaries, with a structure of gardens and courtyards. Together, they form a wealth of different public spaces. - Smart spatial layout for mixing functions: Activity, Rest and Noise
Science is central along the Mekelpark and in some other zones, which is why other functions should not interfere with research here. In the other parts of Campus Midden there are opportunities to enhance the attractiveness and quality of life of the campus by adding other functions, including housing.
Activity zones
Activity zones are places where there is always something to do. These places attract people for planned and spontaneous encounters. They also have the largest concentration of amenities such as catering and sports.
Rest zones
Rest zones are quiet areas, such as the gardens and park. Here you can work, study or live undisturbed in green surroundings without too many distractions. A variety of housing types in different volumes are located here. This area is also ideal for climate adaptation and recreational spots.
Noise zones
There is room for the university’s logistics and operational side of things around the edges of the campus. This is where you’ll find important functions such as logistics and mobility hubs. These areas also provide opportunities for activities that may cause a bit more disturbance. Areas like this are also known as ‘noise zones’.
